Paper Heart Chain... Snow... and Potty Training...

Just a quick little Valentine's Day craft. This literally took me 10 minutes to make.

Just cut a double sided patterned paper into 1" strips, fold in 1/2 and then use sticky strip to adhere at the top/center of the heart. Make sure you use a thicker paper so the hearts hold their shape... and a very strong adhesive.

It's snowing again in NW Illinois... last weekend I actually went sledding... and I lived to tell the tale! Here are some pics to make you warm-climate-types a little more grateful...

Got snow?

My niece... adorable...

My son... trowing a snowball at mom...

Potty training is NOT going well. We were starting to feel like we were scarring Andy for life and causing all sorts of Freudian trauma... so we are taking a break. Everyone is much happier.

Andy; stressed out (and cute) from potty training...

Try potty training rewards. When I sat our son down and showed him the push button telling him he is a Big Boy and that he would then be able to find a surprise behind a door did the trick. He was going pee and poo in his potty within a week. He would go potty and then ask where is Bobby. That is what we named the little boy on the outside of the packaging. He would then find a chocolate behind each door. Plus it was inexpensive. Here is the website www.pottytrainingrewards.com

We had similar potty training problems. Stephen was totally stressed and getting depressed. He didn't smile for days. We also decided to give it a rest. We will try again in a few months. It's really not that big of a deal.

Don't worry about this really, you are the foremost expert in your kid, you know what's best, it will be ok. Don't let anyone or any book tell you different!

I was certain that my son would never be potty trained... we'd been at it for nearly two years, with the pull-ups and the rewards and the floating cheerios (for target practice). He was 4, had a new baby sister, and was a total wreck (as was his mother, lol). You know what worked? Not a thing. He was ready when he was ready, and at 4 1/2, he was potty trained. Booyah!

I just kept telling myself that he wouldn't go off to college without knowing how to pee on the potty!

Potty training is a nightmare. Kids do it when they want to. Just remember- once he is actively training you'll have to take him to the bathroom EVERY place you go. You'll know the location of EVERY bathroom in town!

The heart chain is genius! Looks like something fun for the my kids to do with me today as we try to recover from being sick.
